I am a self-confessed bookworm and post reviews of many of the books I read on this site. Find me also on Goodreads, Amazon and Pinterest. I am a reviewer on The Book Review Directory, The IndieView and NetGalley. I also review for Bostick Communications and Strangebooks UK Publisher. I do not receive monetary compensation for my reviews. Some but not all of the books I review are provided by the author or publisher. I read across genres, love narrative non-fiction, biographies, history and many other types of writing.
Fantasy/Paranormal/Magical Realism with little or implied romance
19th and early 20th century British historical fiction and non-fiction (excluding Jane Austen type works)
Historical British crime fiction
WWII (excluding that set in Asian theater of operations)
A new interest of mine is books with an Asian theme or set in locales of the Eastern Asia, a/k/a the Far East (China, Japan, the Koreas, and Thailand, excluding those set or about the Korean War or WWII Asian Theater Operations)
Reading is a fulfilling part of my life, but like police procedurals being one section within the genre of crime fiction, reading is just one of my many interests. For as long as I can remember, trains, planes, and the military have fascinated me. My grandfather on my father’s side was a fireman and then an engineer for Atlanta and West Point Railroad became part of the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad and ultimately CSX Transportation until he retired. As for planes, I love to fly and spent much of my girlhood at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport when it was the William B. Hartsfield Atlanta Airport looking out at the planes at the gates while waiting for my cousin Mike to arrive from Virginia. And the military? I suppose my fascination derives (and still does, albeit with my husband) from watching old WWII movies with my father. Favorite movies or series featuring the military include Band of Brothers, Full Metal Jacket, Saving Private Ryan and American Sniper.
I am in the process of constructing a model train village (O gauge) building, building by building, shrub by shrub. Laying out a model train village with constructing buildings, setting down roads, and installing scenery from hand I have found is fun, and it gives me a chance to see what works, and more importantly find what doesn’t work in the series. A life in miniature! When finished it will be the model of Bullards, the small town where the historical fiction series is set. I plan to post pictures and videos as the model develops.
I have two indoor kitties (Scooter & Siam), five outdoor neighbor cats, three dogs (Woody, Ginger, and Molly) and love genealogy, improving on my marksmanship, and walking with my husband (gotta get those 10,000 steps-proud owner of a Fitbit). I am a proud supporter of the U.S. Humane Society, Atlanta Humane Society, Cedartown Humane Society; the Armed Forces through Operation Paperback; Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History.
